The University of Florida Scholarships for Freshmen were created by the Florida Department of Education for high school graduates. For students accepted into the program who submit their applications by the priority deadlines and learn their admissions status on February Decision Day, the admissions office offers a small number of scholarships. No extra paperwork or up-to-date information can be provided for review, nor is a separate application required.
The review procedure uses the same all-encompassing strategy as the admissions selection process. Scholarships are given out based on your academic performance, performance on standardized tests, extracurricular activities, leadership qualities, volunteer work, and personal essays. The exceptional freshman class makes it difficult to give out scholarships.
Since there are only a limited number of scholarships available, they may be awarded differently to students with comparable exam results, grades, extracurricular activities, and other factors. Only 10% of Freshmen receive a merit scholarship each academic year.
You will be contacted by email and a status page update by the middle of March if you are chosen for one of the merit-based scholarships. Students who are not chosen for scholarships do not receive notifications from UF. If the university doesn’t contact you, you weren’t chosen for a scholarship.
Residential Tuition Waiver
A $2,000 residential tuition waiver will be given to students who are given the chance to join the University Research Scholars Program (with $500 waived each fall and spring term). No extra paperwork or up-to-date information can be provided for review, nor is a separate application required.
The classification of residency for tuition purposes is not taken into account because this residential tuition waiver is available to both Florida residents and non-residents of Florida. This award would lower the amount charged to any Florida PrePaid accounts.

National Merit Finalists/Benacquisto Scholarship
National Merit Finalists who select the University of Florida as their top choice university with the National Merit Corporation by their deadline of May 31 are eligible for a $500 annual National Merit Scholarship from the University of Florida. Beginning in early March and continuing each month through the beginning of June, the National Merit Scholarship Corporation sends out periodic lists of finalists who have listed UF as their top choice.
The Benacquisto Scholarship is provided by the Florida Department of Education and covers the remaining institutionally posted cost of attendance (less Bright Futures and the qualifying National Merit Scholarship) for in-state residents. The UF National Merit Scholarship is one of the University of Florida scholarships that qualifies as a college-sponsored scholarship under the requirements for the Benacquisto Scholarship.
The Benacquisto Scholarship Program is a state-funded initiative whose funding is subject to appropriations made by the legislature each year.
Lombardi and Stamps Scholarships
The John V. Lombardi Scholarship and the Stamps Family Scholarship are available to prospective students who place at the top of their class and display community service, extracurricular activity, leadership, and strong moral character. Each year, the application cycle for these honours begins in the fall, and candidates should apply during their senior year of high school. Up to two graduating seniors from each high school may be nominated for these prizes and homeschooled students may be submitted by their advisors. Links to the application and nomination instructions are available on this page.
