The Shawn Carter Scholarship Fund assists students in furthering their education by providing them with the resources they require to enrol in college, pay tuition, and successfully complete college on time. The program, which was founded by Jay-Z and his philanthropist mother, Gloria, focuses on assisting low-income students who reside in disadvantaged communities around urban America.
Individual scholarships are provided by the Shawn Carter Scholarship Fund. They are awarded directly to the educational institution to any applicant who qualifies and reapplies each year from the entrance to graduation. The award may be used to cover tuition and related extra educational expenditures such as books, lab fees, travel, and certain living expenses. All Shawn Carter Scholarship beneficiaries must “give back” through community work and mentoring younger, aspiring scholars.
SCSF recruits people from all walks of life around the country. Despite many personal and socioeconomic hurdles, such as teen motherhood, past incarceration, delayed schooling, poverty, and homelessness, they all have a strong desire to seek higher education.
