Does RPI require test scores in 2023?

All applicants must submit their SAT or ACT scores to RPI. 72% of accepted students who were in the admissions cycle for 2017–18 submitted their SAT results.

According to the admissions data, most of RPI’s admitted students scored in the top 20% of the country on the SAT. 

50% of applicants to RPI received scores for the evidence-based reading and writing component between 640 and 720, while 25% received scores below 640 and 25% received scores over 720.

For most applicants, RPI does not require the SAT writing part. The admissions office will consider your top score from each section across all SAT dates since RPI participates in the score choice program. 

For admission to the accelerated programs in law and medicine at RPI, applicants must pass the SAT Subject Tests and the SAT (or ACT) Writing Section.

RPI ACT Requirements 

Your highest composite ACT score will be considered; remember that RPI does not superscore ACT results. For most applicants, RPI does not require the ACT writing part.

What are the Admission Requirements for RPI in 2023

Selective admissions are used at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, which only receives about half of its applicants. 

RPI, however, has a comprehensive certification process that considers more than just numbers. 

Your candidacy may be strengthened by a great application essay, an impressive letter of recommendation, involvement in noteworthy extracurricular activities, and a busy schedule.

Transfer Requirements for RPI 

Minimum Average Grade: Minimum Overall Average Grade: 3.0 (may be higher in some areas); special circumstances will be considered in admissions decisions.  

Official Certificate: Full-time High School Diploma is required if he applies in less than four semesters. College transcripts from each institution attended are required. 

 SAT credits: SAT/ACT credits are required if applying for less than four semesters of full-time. 

 Recommendation: Request a letter of recommendation from the department, dean or advisor who has taught you.  

Essay: The essay is optional for all transfer applicants. However, we encourage you to submit an essay with your transfer application. The essay should address why you want to transfer to Rensselaer and should be approximately 250-500 words.  

Application Fee: There is a $70 non-refundable application fee.  

Interview: Rensselaer does not offer admissions interviews. However, if you would like to schedule an appointment with a transfer consultant to answer your questions, we can.  

Other Requirements: Electronic Arts, Architecture, Gaming, Simulation Arts and Sciences Applicants are required to submit a creative portfolio.
