About Algoma University

Algoma University was formerly an affiliate of Laurentian University in Sudbury when it was founded in 1965 as Algoma College. At the location of Cambrian College, which is now Sault College, Algoma College started delivering classes there in a portable structure in 1967. In 1971, Algoma College relocated to its present home, which was once the Shingwauk Residential School facility.

Algoma University received its charter in 2008 and became the 19th university in Ontario with full autonomy as a result. The Faculty of Sciences, the Faculty of Social Sciences, and the Faculty of Humanities are the three faculties through which Algoma University presently provides more than 30 academic programs in a variety of subjects.
